Dr. Anne Rasmussen
Dr. Anne Rasmussen is an ethnomusicologist well-known for her works in Indonesia. Anne, a Professor in Music and Ethnomusicology, at the College of William and Mary is the author of several books including “Women’s Voices, the Recited Qur’an, and Islamic Music in Indonesia” and “Divine Inspirations: Music and Islam in Indonesia.” Currently, she receives a US Fulbright Scholar award to conduct a research on “Indonesian Islamic Performance in the Context of an Indian Ocean Sound-World.” She will revisit her survey of seni music Islam and investigate the routes of performance practices that have migrated around the Indian Ocean and, more specifically, between Java and Sumatra and the Arabian Peninsula. She will be supported by UIN Syarif Hidayatullah for the project.
